Ali blitzes it

Ali Haigh has stolen a roomful of hearts. ‘When did it go on exhibition?’ A stunned gallery-goer asked me. It was the Sunday after a jubilant opening night and there were red stickers everywhere.
So captivating is Pattern to Print, the latest range of designs by the local artist and teacher at North Coast TAFE. She’s filled the heritage space with patterns evoking the region. There are volcanic rock pools and ancient paperbarks drifting through chiffon and shining in mosaics cut intricately from art catalogues. Ali is a true artisan, fluid across mediums, with a message that matters.
Ali Haigh is currently joined on exhibition at the Manning Regional Art Gallery by the extraordinary abstractions of The Australian Quilt, in a celebration of colour, fabric and the country we live in. Don’t miss it. Photograph of the artist by Julie Slavin.
